“Our vision is of
God’s People united in worship, captivated by the word, lost in his presence!
We seek freedom, unity, honesty and reality grounded in Jesus Christ.” - The Remission Flow
After hearing this band for the first time a couple weeks
ago, saying we were “excited” is a bit of an understatement! The 7-piece band
from Ireland
really gets things right. Their debut album “The Light that Floods” was
released late last year and all we can say is that it is such a shame we’re
only listening to them now!
Looking at various interviews and descriptions of the band,
it is so incredible to see how humble they are, how their passion for God
emanates from each and every song, and how serving God and His people is their
primary focus.
It is rare to find a debut album that possesses the variety
of music that “The Light that Floods” does. It starts off strong with their
single “Walls” – dare I say, slight “Snow Patrol-ly” (I apologize if the band
do not approve of this comparison...)
The debut album by this Irish group proves to be one of the
most interesting debut albums I have heard in a long time. The album brings
forward a sense of worship that I, myself, have not experienced for a long
while. I don’t know if it is down to any Irish music influences, or because
they are a 7-piece band, but they definitely have a different (almost alternative)
sound to both their melody and lyrics. You never feel as though this is simply
your run-of-the-mill worship band. They don’t carry a sombre atmosphere throughout
the album, instead they provide a variety of slower, more reflective songs,
while still including faster, almost “anthemic”,
choruses.
Songs like “Light up” bring this awesome sound of intense
piano and thunderous vocals; immediately following that song you move into
“Wilderness”, possessing some similar vibes, but still different in its own
right. The entire album seems to follow this pattern, there are no two songs
that are alike, and yet the album flows (excuse the pun).
The lyrical pronouncement (strongly routed in scripture) is
undeniable. Beautifully worded songs of love, and hard-hitting songs of worship,
allow us to here a story all the while enjoying a new vibe.
Initially when I heard this album I was sceptical, Alex
enjoyed the album right from the first time he heard “Walls”, I was a little
more reserved and it took me a little longer to fall in love with the band.
Once I did, however, I found myself constantly listening to album, louder and
louder each time. The guitar intro for songs like “My Saviour Lives” gives you
a glimpse of the talent that is to come from this band.
The melodious sounds of this new band make them one that
needs to be checked out by everyone. I can almost guarantee that you will enjoy
them.
The Remission Flood:
the Light That Floods is a great starting point for a great band. Check
them out and support them.
Song of the week goes to… “Walls”
Have a rocking week everyone
